Niedermayr wurde vor allem durch seine bleichen Aufnahmen von alpinen Landschaften, SANAA durch ihre reduktiv und ephemer wirkenden Bauten international bekannt. Beide verfolgen in ihren jeweiligen Disziplinen eine künstlerisch abstrahierende Haltung, in der sie Architektur und Raum nach Koexistenzen, Schichten und Gefügen untersuchen. Freilich vermarkten Fotografen in Bildbänden häufig vor allem sich selbst. Es ist kaum vorstellbar, diese Bilder der mörderisch kurzen Halbwertszeit digitaler Medien auszusetzen. Abstract: Walter Niedermayr (geb. 1952) hat seit Ende der 1980er-Jahre kontinuierlich in hochalpinen Regionen weltweit gearbeitet und sich mit der Präsenz und den Eingriffen des Menschen in diesen sensiblen Landschaften auseinandergesetzt. Im Winter 2009 wurde er nach Aspen, Colorado, eingeladen, und dort entstand eine weitere Serie seiner Werkgruppe Alpine Landschaften. In 42 mehrteiligen Foto- und Videoarbeiten zeigt der Künstler die winterliche Landschaft um den Skiort Aspen, die durch die Erschließung für den höchst anspruchsvollen Tourismus geprägt und gekennzeichnet ist: In seinen meisterhaft fotografierten Bildserien bleibt Niedermayr ein präziser und kritischer Beobachter der Veränderung und Anpassung von Landschaft durch den Homo touristicus. Abstract: On 19 June 1992 Austria and Italy declared the official resolution of the South Tyrol question - the dispute that had dominated relations between the two countries since the end of the First World War. While this bilingual province is today held up as a triumph of minority rights protection and a model for post-conflict societies across the world, the story of the South Tyrol since its amalgamation into the Italian state in 1919 has been a complex and often turbulent one. This book investigates the political role of the theatre in reflecting, shaping and subverting patterns of cultural identity among the German-speaking South Tyrolese. Taking as its starting point the representation of history in a series of ambitious theatrical productions from the 1970s to the present, this study offers close readings of texts and performances and an examination of the belated development of professional theatre in the province. The role of theatre is analysed in terms of the broader historical and sociocultural factors at play in the shaping of South Tyrolese identity. (Pressetext)

Abstract: Me and Fashion is a constellation of fashion photographs made by Brigitte Niedermair (born 1971) over the past 20 years. These images show how, informed by her parallel creative path as an independent art photographer, she continues to query and utilize her female perspective to expand the conventions and biases of the fashion image system. Niedermair's photographic collaborators and subjects tend to have training as dancers and can transform themselves into the material expression of the body as a language, adopting an "attitude of resistance" toward the camera. Me and Fashion is published for Niedermair's exhibition at the Museo di Palazzo Mocenigo during the 2019 Venice Biennale. Working with acclaimed photography curator Charlotte Cotton, Niedermair responds to the atmosphere of each room of the Palazzo Mocenigo, replacing historic paintings with her fashion and still-life photographs to both amplify and counter the embedded subtexts of gender and identity that permeate these predominantly 17th-century interiors.

Abstract: In the second volume of the series “Diptera Stelviana”, further results are published from the survey of the Diptera (flies and midges) in the South Tyrol part of the Stilfserjoch National Park (Italian Alps). Five Malaise traps were used, which were set up during the vegetative period of 2005 along a transect from the submontane to the alpine altitudinal zones (940 m to 2,135 m above NHN). After the guest foreword and the editor’s foreword on the impact of the “Nagoya Protocol” on biodiversity research, volume 2 continues with a comprehensive historical account of dipterological research in the South Tyrol since 1860. In the first part of this series which was published in 2008 more than 25.000 specimens of Diptera were dealt with. Abstract: Intonation is increasingly becoming a central topic in understanding the phonology of spoken language. Geoffrey Barker gives a detailed account of the intonational structure of Tyrolean German, a South Bavarian dialect of German spoken in western Austria and northern Italy, using an “autosegmental-metrical” theory of intonational phonology. Based on new fieldwork data, he provides a phonetic and phonological analysis of pitch contours in Tyrolean German with the assistance of speech analysis software. He demonstrates that Tyrolean German intonation is fundamentally different from the intonation of non-southern varieties of Standard German due to its distinctive default pitch accent. This book will appeal to both intonologists and dialectologists with its illuminating depiction of the prosodic structure of this southern dialect of German. Statt auf Bücherwissen und Autoritäten setzt er auf das eigene Philosophieren, das immer neu nach der Wahrheit fragt. Der Laie verkörpert die cusanische Philosophie in besonderem Maße: Fundamentale anthropologische, erkenntnistheoretische und metaphysische Bestimmungen des Cusanus finden sich hier in einer Gestalt vereint. Aus dem Wissen heraus, dass menschliches Erkennen immer nur mutmaßend sein kann, geht es um das rechte kritische Verhältnis zu den eigenen Erkenntnismöglichkeiten. An der Figur des Laien macht Cusanus deutlich, dass dies keineswegs in einen erkenntnistheoretischen Skeptizismus führt, der die Möglichkeit sicheren Wissens von vornherein für nicht erreichbar und infolgedessen alle Erkenntnisbemühungen für überflüssig hält, sondern dass darin das unendliche und dynamische Potential des Menschen zum Ausdruck kommt, sich unermüdlich an die Wahrheit anzunähern. Abstract: This volume explores familial wealth arrangements and gendered property from the fourteenth to the nineteenth centuries in Italian, German and Austrian territories (including Florence, Trento, Tyrol, and Vienna), Nordic countries, Western Pyrenees, and England. Family property as capital in the form of houses, land, movables, financial assets, and rights were of great importance in the past. Arrangements of such property were characterised by a high degree of negotiating competence but likewise they entailed competition between the parties involved and were highly conflict prone. Fifteen contributors from Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK address different marital property regimes in relation to the practices and legal regulations of inheritance patterns with consideration to inter-familial negotiation, conflict, and resolution.
