Abstract: Beiträge teilweise englisch, teilweise deutsch, teilweise italienisch. Since 1992, the European Academy Bozen/ Bolzano (EURAC) has conducted applied research and continuing education. The core activities of the EURAC are in the fields of Applied Linguistics, Minorities and Autonomies, Sustainable Development, Management and Corporate Culture and Life Sciences. The main emphasis of the research focuses on South Tyrolean as well as European interests. Because of its geographical location, South Tyrol is an interface between three different language groups and cultures. Through its work, the EURAC is building bridges between the German and Italian language groups and is also connecting different disciplines, sciences and societies as well as theory and practice. Abstract: What does another language do to the individual who learns and uses it€ How is the individual’s idea of self affected by the other language€ This case study deals with these two overarching questions within the context of learning English as a foreign language through drama at a German upper-secondary school in South Tyrol. It investigates how the students see themselves in their roles, how they perceive themselves as users of the foreign language, and how they experience themselves in-role in another language. The results show how powerful drama-based activities can be and what educational impact they have. (waxmann.com)

Abstract: This volume presents a selection of eight papers presented at three symposia on English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP) that were held at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. The experiences detailed in the chapters offer a representative sample of the diversity of approaches to teaching and assessing ESP and EAP that were shared on those occasions. The contributions vary markedly by teaching and research context: whereas some report the results of meticulously planned research projects, others describe in detail cases embedded in specific contexts in Italy and in the US, others analyse the specialised language of particular discourses or domains, or reflect upon teaching methods and materials. Abstract: This collection presents the state of the art on English-medium instruction (EMI) / Integrating content and language (ICL) in Italian higher education, drawing attention to different critical aspects of the teaching/learning experience and highlighting the perspectives of various educational stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of tertiary study in a foreign language. The chapters draw on a range of methodologies, from multimodal participant observation, to action research, to video-stimulated recall (VSR), to questionnaires and interviews, in examining language policies and practices across various educational settings. Overall, the volume suggests that internationalisation succeeds best when the form of lessons (language) and the content of lessons (disciplinary concepts) are constructively aligned in curriculum planning and delivery. This integration process requires the strategic support of educators to guarantee the quality of learning in multilingual education.
