Stets sind Kontrast und Licht die wichtigsten Stellschrauben bei der Bildgestaltung. Mathis’ Fotos sind solche, die umso stärker wirken, je länger man sie anschaut. Freilich vermarkten Fotografen in Bildbänden häufig vor allem sich selbst. Es ist kaum vorstellbar, diese Bilder der mörderisch kurzen Halbwertszeit digitaler Medien auszusetzen.
