Abstract: This collection presents the state of the art on English-medium instruction (EMI) / Integrating content and language (ICL) in Italian higher education, drawing attention to different critical aspects of the teaching/learning experience and highlighting the perspectives of various educational stakeholders regarding the effectiveness of tertiary study in a foreign language. The chapters draw on a range of methodologies, from multimodal participant observation, to action research, to video-stimulated recall (VSR), to questionnaires and interviews, in examining language policies and practices across various educational settings. Overall, the volume suggests that internationalisation succeeds best when the form of lessons (language) and the content of lessons (disciplinary concepts) are constructively aligned in curriculum planning and delivery. This integration process requires the strategic support of educators to guarantee the quality of learning in multilingual education.

Tatsächlich aber faszinieren diese grazilen Organismen durch ihre Schönheit im Detail und durch ihre Fähigkeit, auch an den extremsten Standorten zu existieren. In diesem Buch wird die Artenvielfalt dieser Organismengruppe am Alpenhauptkamm in Nord- und Südtirol aufgezeigt. Triebfeder der Untersuchungen waren die subfossilen Moose und Lebermoose, die an der Fundstelle des „Ötzi“, seiner Kleidung und an seinen sterblichen Überresten geborgen wurden. Es folgte die Kartierung einer rund 200 km² großen Untersuchungsfläche rund um die Fundstelle des Mannes im Eis, wobei sich mehrere Neufunde für die Region und Korrekturen der Höhenverbreitungsgrenzen ergaben. Abstract: Value is arguably one of the key concepts of the globalized world. This title features essays on classical philosophical sources on value, and, on the other, readings that show how the concept of value shapes our manner of thinking in pivotal issues and domains of economics, culture, and knowledge. Value is arguably one of the key concepts of the globalized world. In this world, to be is to be or have a value, while all thinking and implementing has the form of valuing and evaluating. Thanks to their operative expediency, both the concept of value and thinking through values appear as sufficient and such as not to need any interrogation as to their provenance and implications. The essays of this volume, on the other hand, provide insights precisely in these aspects by presenting, on the one hand, classical philosophical sources on value, and, on the other, readings that show how the concept of value shapes our manner of thinking in pivotal issues and domains of economics, culture, and knowledge. Abstract: On 19 June 1992 Austria and Italy declared the official resolution of the South Tyrol question - the dispute that had dominated relations between the two countries since the end of the First World War. While this bilingual province is today held up as a triumph of minority rights protection and a model for post-conflict societies across the world, the story of the South Tyrol since its amalgamation into the Italian state in 1919 has been a complex and often turbulent one. This book investigates the political role of the theatre in reflecting, shaping and subverting patterns of cultural identity among the German-speaking South Tyrolese. Taking as its starting point the representation of history in a series of ambitious theatrical productions from the 1970s to the present, this study offers close readings of texts and performances and an examination of the belated development of professional theatre in the province. The role of theatre is analysed in terms of the broader historical and sociocultural factors at play in the shaping of South Tyrolese identity. (Pressetext)

Abstract: Carol Loeb Shloss creates a compelling portrait of a complex relationship of a daughter and her literary-giant father: Ezra Pound and Mary de Rachewiltz, Pound’s child by his long-time mistress, the violinist Olga Rudge. Brought into the world in secret and hidden in the Italian Alps at birth, Mary was raised by German peasant farmers, had Italian identity papers, a German-speaking upbringing, Austrian loyalties common to the area and, perforce, a fascist education. For years, de Rachewiltz had no idea that Pound and Rudge, the benefactors who would sporadically appear, were her father and mother. Gradually the truth of her parentage was revealed, and with it the knowledge that Dorothy Shakespear, and not Olga, was Pound’s actual wife. Dorothy, in turn, kept her own secrets: while Pound signed the birth certificate of her son, Omar, and claimed legal paternity, he was not the boy’s biological father. Two lies, established at the birth of these children, created a dynamic antagonism that lasted for generations. Pound maneuvered through it until he was arrested for treason after World War II and shipped back from Italy to the United States, where he was institutionalized rather than imprisoned. Abstract: India not only is concerned with inevitable multilingualism, but also with the rights of many millions of speakers of minority languages. As the political and cultural context privileges some major languages, linguistic minorities often feel discriminated against by the current language policy of the Union and the States. They experience on a daily basis that their mother tongues are deemed worthless dialects that have little utility in modern life. Many such languages have definitively disappeared, and several more are on the brink of extinction. Is this the inevitable price to be paid for economic modernization, cultural homogenisation and the multilingual fabric of Indias society at large€ This book is an effort to map Indias linguistic minorities and to assess the language policy towards these communities. Abstract: Ezra Pound, T. S. Eliot, and Wyndham Lewis have all, to varying degrees, been the subject of studies that explore their ideology. All too often, however, these studies have not tackled the issue adequately, limiting their analytical approach to fascism or other phenomena such as anti-Semitism. Frequently, they have also sought to exculpate these writers or to normalise their political tendencies in an effort to circumnavigate the dilemma of how to address the paradox of right-wing artists who are both harbingers and opponents of the imagined trajectory of progressive modernity. This interdisciplinary study analyses the connections between literary Modernism and right-wing ideology. Moreover, it is the first academic study to explore the reception of these Modernist authors by today's far right, seeking to understand in what ways they use strategic readings of Modernist texts to legitimise right-wing ideology. By raising fundamental questions about the relationship between aesthetics and politics, this study ultimately challenges its readers to see their cultural practices as political. It wants to make visible and problematize the interdependencies of right-wing ideology and cultural production as well as reception in order to explain the (far) Right as a phenomenon deeply rooted in European history and cultural development.
